It is my distinct pleasure to welcome each one of you to this exciting study tour to Malaysia with Education Republic. I am Jacob, the Group Director of this organization, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share with you the first-hand experience to see through our remarkable University partners found in Malaysia, a truly Asia study destination.

Quick Tips

Is ER service really free?: Yes, that’s correct. All the procedures for studying abroad are free, except for the IELTS preparatory program.
How can I make sure this is truly free?: All payments, whether related to registration or tuition fees, will be paid directly to the university’s account that you have applied to.
Is tuition more expensive with a consultant?: Of course not. The tuition fee you pay is the same as stated in the university’s brochure and website.

The advantage of studying in Malaysia is its affordable cost of living. For example, Kuala Lumpur, one of the most affordable cities in the world, ranks 5th in the cost of living Index 200, offering the lowest cost of living in the ASEAN region.

MULTICULTURAL COUNTRY
Many international students are studying in Malaysia, where the top five countries of origin Bangladesh, China, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Yemen. Therefore, this provides an excellent opportunity for Indonesian students who seek more international exposure without having to travel further from their home country.

ENGLISH AS ONE OF THE MEDIUM LANGUAGES IN EDUCATION
Although Bahasa Malaysia is the official language of the country, English is widely used in Malaysia as a second language. Most university courses are taught in English, and it is possible to live in urban areas of Malaysia with English as the primary means of communication.

Cost of Living

Accommodation

Rent is one of the most significant expenses. In Kuala Lumpur, for example, renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city center can cost between RM2,500 to RM4,000 per month, while in the sub-urban areas, it might be slightly cheaper.

Food

Food in Malaysia is known for its affordable price and delicious taste. Eating at local hawker stalls and food courts can cost as low as RM5-10 per meal. Meanwhile, dining at midscale restaurants may cost around RM20-50 per person.

Utilities

Monthly utilities for a standard apartment can cost around RM150 to RM250, including electricity, water, heating/cooling, and internet. Cellular SIM cards are typically available at Malaysian airports. It’s advisable that, upon arriving in Malaysia, you should purchase one of these SIM cards so that you can easily communicate in the early stages of your arrival in Malaysia.

Transportation

Malaysia has several international airports located in each state of Malaysia. The most famous airport with many international flights is Kuala Lumpur International Airport or KLIA. Transportation in Malaysia is relatively modern, especially in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur where the transportation hub is well-organized. There are several options to choose: Taxi (Metered Taxi, Grab, MyCar), Public Bus (MyRapid, Go KL, Smart Selangor, PJ City Bus), and Trains (KTM Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah State Railway, LRT and MRT, KLIA Express).

What to See

Petronas Twin Tower

The Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur are a must-visit city icon. These twin towers, with 88 floors, serve as the headquarters for Malaysia’s oil and gas company, Petronas.

Chinatown

Colorful Chinatown is a bustling, 24/7 bargain hunter’s paradise with rich Oriental culture, heritage, and history. It’s a top tourist spot in Malaysia, competing well with its glamorous neighbors, KLCC and Bukit Bintang.

Menara KL Tower

Menara KL, officially known as KL Tower, is a 421-meter-high structure in Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve. It’s the world’s sixth tallest building and offers impressive city views, although it’s overshadowed by the Petronas Twin Towers.

What to Eat

Nasi Lemak

Nasi Lemak is a beloved Malay dish, with both Chinese and Indian variations. It’s essentially coconut milk-infused rice served with ‘sambal,’ a spicy sauce with salted anchovies.

Bak Kut Teh

Bak Kut Teh, a Malaysian-Chinese dish, originated in Klang, Selangor. It was created by a stall owner under a bridge for opium-smoking coolies who had dulled taste buds due to the drug.

Roti Canai

Roti Canai, a breakfast favorite, is a simple and delicious pancake made from wheat flour, oil, ghee, or butter. It’s flattened by tossing it in the air, fried on a hot plate, and served with dhal, chicken, or fish curry.
